YOC Palimpsest #3 – Lined Up

YOC, the initiative of Katrien Dessers to give chances to contemporary artists who are not yet affliated to a gallery, held an Open Call on instagram for artworks of the exact height of 40 cm.  There were a whopping 533 applications. I am therefore very happy that my submission is 1 of the selected works, which will be shown in the ‘LINED UP’ part of the new YOC expo Palimpsest #3 from Sunday july 10 until August 1. Welcome!

From 20 to 29 May I will exhibit my paintings in the small but beautiful Gallery Expo 38 in the Begijnhof van Hoogstraten. I will have to leave my really large works at home, but for many people a painting of 100 x 120 cm is also really big, and I’ll show a few new ones. Welcome!

Saturday 21, Sunday 22 May: 1 to 6 pm
Friday 27, Saturday 28, Sunday 29 May: 1 to 6 pm

Charbon de Beringen² : Show and Open Studio

Oh ooooh, time flies. I’ve been so busy that I couldn’t take the time to sit down and write a blog post.
But please be welcome on my solo show an Open Studio in a really unique location

Solo show in the “winding house” (Dubbel Ophaalgebouw)
At the occasion of the memorial of the 30 years closure of the
coal mine of Beringen, you will be able to see An’s paintings in
the unique environment of the “double winding house” at
be-MINE. This part of historical patrimony, now open for visitors,
is located between the two shaft towers of Beringen’s
coal mine site

Open studio
During the show An V. is housing her studio in this building.
She is working on new paintings, inspired by its environment.
A unique opportunity to have a look behind artist’s studio
walls. And to see how the coal left on the conveyor belts of the
coal mine is getting a new destiny. A destiny with the same
brightness as the light reflected by the coal.

The exposition is open
October 6 to 27, 2019
on wed, sat & sun 2 – 5 p.m. and by appointment

Artist talk: Thursday, October 17 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Only by reservation. Admission: € 8

Nocturne: Friday, October 25 from 6 to 10 p.m. Free access

The ‘Double winding house” (Dubbel Ophaalgebouw) is located
at be-MINE between the 2 shaft towers, behind the power plant
Address: be-MINE, Koolmijnlaan 201, 3582 Beringen

Charbon de Beringen: the exhibition is open!

Opening tentoonstelling Charbon de Beringen

To be honest: the exhibition is open since more then a week, but I’m a bit late with my report. Maybe it’s still a habit of my Artist Residency latergrams ;-). No, seriously: It was a hell of a job, and I needed a break. It was lots of work, and I was full of nerves, despite all the preparations… but it was all worth it, once the people came in :-). I’m really happy with the amount of visitors, and with their comments. The reactions were more than heart-warming. I’m one happy lady now :).

For now I’m only showing some photos of the opening. Photos of the exhibition itself? Well, come and see it for yourself :). You cannot a capture the effect of coalpaint on a computer or cell phone screen. You have to see it for yourself. Welcome!

“ART Connects (?), Across Borders” – Expo in De Kantfabriek, Ninove

Sorry for the lack on blog post lately. I’m working (more then) fulltime in my studio and haven’t seen my office for a while.

Latest news: I’m participating in the group show “ART Connects (?), Across Borders” with my ceramics. The location is “De Kantfabriek” in Ninove (BE), that’s an old lace factory.
The opening show where you’re kindly invited to, is Thursday, May 31st.
The works of art I’ve seen from the other participants today are really marvellous, so don’t miss this show!

Me, I’m showing for the first time my favorite black painted ceramic Saint Barbara. I already miss her in my home, but you can take a look at here for the next month. Be kind to her: she’s fragile, and she doesn’t want to be touched without white cotton gloves. She will bite you if you act otherwise. And if SHE doesn’t: I will. That’s a promise.

Beautiful exhibition in Brussels: Chun Kwang Young in Villa Empain

I discovered the art of Chun Kwang Young at Art Brussels this year. I liked it at lot. So when I learned about his solo expo in Villa Empain, a place I also fancied to visit, it was a no brainer: I had to go. Last week, I finally did.

Exposition Chun Kwang Young

Chun Kwang Young

detail artwork by Chun Kwang YoungWhat’s that!? Well, these are tiny triangular packets of hanji. Chun Kwang Young is from South Korea, and hanji is a paper using mulberry bark that has been produced in Korea since the ninth century for packaging, writing, printmaking, insulation, and to hold medicine (thank you exhibition guide ;-).
Damn the man must have a lot of patient, but the result is really beautiful!
